•The Scheme was piloted during 2000 and 2001 in
550 schools across

England - funded
by the Department of Health.

•The New Opportunities Fund has invested
£42 million for the next two

years for
expansion of the Scheme across England
|
|
|
|
•Expansion is taking place on a region by
region basis
|
|
|
|
•In 2002, the first whole regions to benefit
from the scheme:

- First region
was West Midlands – 300,000 children receiving free fruit
|
|
in 2300 schools
|
|
- Second region
was London – 600,000 children receiving free fruit in
|
|
4000 schools
|
|
- In 2003, North
West Region (Spring) and East Midlands (Summer) will
|
|
receive free
fruit
|
|
- By Summer 2003
around 1 million children will be receiving free fruit
|
