About
the 5 A Day National Excellence Awards
The
Produce for Better Health Foundation is pleased to offer the 5 A Day National
Excellence Awards to recognize employee education and participation in, as well
as organizational support of the national 5 A Day program.
These awards celebrate the highest standard of corporate and personal
commitment to eating 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day to
maintain good health and fitness. This program is meant as a call to action to foster positive
steps toward a diet higher in fruits and vegetables.
Objectives
The
objectives of the 5 A Day National Excellence Awards are to increase
organization/ employee:
Awareness
of the health and nutrition benefits of eating fruits and vegetables
Understanding
of the variety of fruits and vegetables and 100% juices available
Consumption
of fruits and vegetables through workplace support and incentives
Activities
in the workplace that support a series of short-term practices to ensure
long-term gains and diet-related behavior change
Brag
Book
Organizations
and companies participating in the 5 A Day National Excellence Awards will need
to compile a three-ring notebook that demonstrates and documents their 5 A Day
activities.
Judging
A
panel of judges will award recipients in two possible areas of excellence:
1)
Corporate
Contributions and Support Initiatives
2)
Employee
Education and Participation
The
5 A Day National Excellence Awards includes a total of ten awards.
One Diamond Crystal Award is awarded to the company that has the best
overall achievement in both areas of excellence listed above.
Judges will also award nine Gold Series Awards.
They will give awards to three winning companies for Corporate
Contributions and Support Initiatives and will give awards to six companies for
Employee Education and Participation. In
the latter category, three awards will go to companies affiliated with the
produce industry and three awards will go to companies that are not affiliated
with the produce industry.
The
Produce for Better Health Foundation will recognize the award recipients at a
special luncheon at the Foundation’s annual spring board meeting in Monterey,
California. Award recipients will
be recognized through Produce for Better Health Foundation communications,
including the annual report, newsletter, e-mail, website, year-round
communications and activities, news releases for trade and company publications,
and appropriate public media.
