WHAT IS 5 A DAY?

More than a decade ago, when the science behind the health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables began to explode, a public health program called 5 A Day began in California. Eat 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables daily – for better health!

Since then the research behind eating more fruits and vegetables and many types of cancer, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, obesity, longevity, bone health, aging and other diseases only continues to support the effort.

Today 5 A Day-type nutrition education programs are now operating in many countries. Some promote a higher number of daily servings. Each country has a unique network of government, private industries, non-profit organizations, civic, religious, and other groups united at multiple levels throughout the community to each consumers with this important health message.
