THE PILOT INCLUDED:
- Changes in school foodservice operations
- School-wide promotions and marketing
- Nutrition education activities in the classroom and cafeteria
The Pilot Program is a healthy eating program for elementary, middle, and
high schools designed to increase student consumption of fresh fruits
and vegetables by implementing, enhancing, and expanding salad bars, salad
options, and a variety of other fruit and vegetable options and activities
in Florida schools. This pilot was made possible through a grant from
the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Three states, Kansas, Oregon and South Carolina are involved
in the expansion of the pilot for the 2003-04 school year.
PROGRAM ELEMENTS TOOLBOX:

modules on implementing sustainable salad bars and other fruit and vegetable
options in schools (Model Books are currently being field-tested. Outline

Materials - student-tested posters, bookmarks,
book covers, static clings, signage
- Promotion Book - a
variety of fun and exciting promotional ideas, games/activities, and
